Hebden Bridge Arts Festival: 30th June - Martin Rowson, Richard Herring and the Tree Trail

This was a hectic whirlwind tour round some of the Hebden Bridge Arts Festival Events after getting back from a day in Morecambe.

Firstly I caught a little of Martin Rowson's talk on the history of political satirical cartoons. This was really fascinating and Martin had a rakish manner and wit which the audience really engaged with. Here is the official description which seems pretty spot on:

'In this entertaining and unapologetic talk, award-winning cartoonist Martin Rowson takes us on a romp through a 32,000-year-old history of visual satire, the life and work of William Hogarth and the power of giving and taking offence, along the way exposing the techniques, practice and purpose of caricature. Martin is widely acknowledged as one of the UK’s leading cartoonists and political satirists.

His style is visceral and offensive. Be prepared to be shocked, enlightened and thoroughly entertained.'

Next up was Richard Herring, former comedy partner of one of my favourite comedians Stewart Lee, at the Hebden Bridge Picture House. Not the most visually exciting performance for taking pictures but I managed to get some reasonable shots.
